Our services are designed to identify a student's individual literacy needs, provide explicit and systematic instruction, and help families and schools understand the support a student requires.
PLACEMENT ASSESSMENT
Before commencing literacy intervention, students complete an initial placement assessment to identify their current reading and spelling skills and determine the most appropriate starting point within the O-G Reading Clinic program.
The assessment examines sound knowledge, decoding of real and unfamiliar words, reading accuracy and fluency, and spelling. This allows teaching to begin at the point where the student needs explicit instruction rather than relying on age or school year alone.
DYSLEXIA ASSESSMENTS
A comprehensive dyslexia assessment examines reading, spelling and the underlying skills involved in literacy development. Results are considered together to identify patterns of strengths and difficulties and determine whether the child’s literacy profile is consistent with dyslexia.
Assessments include a comprehensive written report with interpretation of results and individual recommendations for school and home.
SPECIALIST LITERACY TUTORING
We provide individual, structured literacy intervention for students experiencing difficulties with reading and spelling. Teaching follows the O-G Reading Clinic’s explicit, cumulative program and is targeted to each student’s identified needs and progress.
SCHOOL HOLIDAY BOOT CAMPS
Our school holiday reading boot camps provides students with additional literacy intervention during the school holidays. More frequent sessions allow students to consolidate skills, maintain momentum and make additional progress between school terms.
NDIS LETTERS
We provide NDIS support letters for current O-G Reading Clinic students, where appropriate and relevant to the student’s NDIS goals. Letters may outline the student’s literacy needs, progress, intervention and ongoing support requirements.
HSC ACCESS PROVISION REQUESTS
We provide targeted literacy and writing assessments to support applications for HSC disability provisions. Assessments are selected according to the provisions being considered and may examine reading accuracy and fluency, reading comprehension, handwriting speed and written output.
Following assessment, we can complete the relevant NESA application documentation, accessed through the student’s school, with results and recommendations for appropriate provisions.
Applications open at the beginning of Term 4 in Year 11 and close at the end of Term 1 in Year 12.
